Amalgamated Security Services (Barbados) Limited (ASSL), in collaboration with the Barbados Police Service, successfully hosted a two-day Tourism and Security Training Programme for security officers on August 19–20, 2026.
The initiative formed part of ASSL’s ongoing commitment to professional development and the delivery of high-quality security services across Barbados, particularly within the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Strengthening Security within Barbados’ Tourism Sector
Tourism plays a vital role in Barbados’ economy, making the safety and security of visitors, employees, businesses and tourism facilities an important national priority.
The Tourism and Security Training Programme was designed to strengthen security officers’ knowledge and awareness of the unique security considerations associated with the tourism industry. It also reinforced the important role security professionals play in creating a safe and welcoming environment for both visitors and residents.
The programme brought together experienced presenters from several areas of the Barbados Police Service, including representatives from the Tourism Liaison Department, Crime Prevention Department, and other specialist areas.
Through the various sessions, participants were exposed to practical knowledge and guidance aimed at enhancing their ability to identify potential security concerns, respond appropriately to incidents and contribute to crime prevention and public safety within tourism-related environments.
Collaboration Between Private Security and Law Enforcement
The programme also demonstrated the value of collaboration between the private security industry and law enforcement.
By facilitating direct engagement between security officers and members of the Barbados Police Service, the training provided an opportunity to strengthen knowledge sharing and promote a coordinated approach to security and crime prevention.
For ASSL, partnerships of this nature are an important component of building the capabilities of security professionals and enhancing the overall standard of security services delivered to clients and the wider community.
Recognizing Professional Development
At the conclusion of the two-day programme, participating security officers received certificates recognizing their successful participation in the Tourism and Security Training Programme.
The certificates were jointly signed by the General Manager of ASSL Barbados and the Commissioner of Police, reflecting the collaborative nature of the initiative and the shared commitment to professional development within the security sector.
